Several Wounded in Denmark Head-On Train Crash

(MENAFN) At least four people are fighting for their lives after two passenger trains collided head-on Thursday morning on the Gribskov Railway in North Zealand, Denmark, triggering a large-scale emergency response.

The collision took place near the town of Kagerup, according to Danish public broadcaster DR, sending rescue teams racing to the site as authorities scrambled to manage casualties and contain the scene.

More than 60 emergency responders were deployed in the immediate aftermath, with police confirming that rescue operations remained active as officials worked to establish the full cause of the crash. Regional health authorities reported at least four individuals in critical condition, with a number of others sustaining injuries of varying severity.

Capital Emergency Services confirmed that all those physically harmed had been evacuated from the wreckage. "All injured people have been transported away from the scene of the accident in ambulances and a helicopter," the agency said in a post on the US social media platform X. "Passengers who are not physically injured have been gathered at a collection point," it added.

Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved disclosed that several of the injured had been airlifted directly to Rigshospitalet hospital. "I am deeply shaken and shocked and thinking of all those involved," she said in a post on the US social media platform Facebook.

The mayor underscored the route's significance to everyday life in the region, noting that it serves a cross-section of the local community — from commuters and workers to schoolchildren — and pledged that authorities would provide support to all those affected.

Police indicated they have established an operational overview of the situation, though rescue efforts were still underway at the time of reporting as investigators work to determine what caused the two trains to meet head-on.
